(Matthew 18:2-6 ESV)

It was reported in The Star that there has been a sex scandal involving a children's home in Penang. No mention has been made with regards to the Children's Home concerned. Among the notable Children's Home in Penang are the St. Joseph's Home, Wisma Yatim, Ramakrishna Ashram and Salvation Army. A lot of speculation has been going on with regards to the identity of the Home. What is sickening is the fact that these children were sexually and physically abused by their caregivers. However, what is even more sickening is the probability of these victims may have been under the care of a religious based Home and that the 'Religious' authorities who run this Home may have known of such dastardly acts and may have swept this heinous crime under the rug and go on a denial mode.
We have already heard of how the child sexual abuse scandal has rocked the Catholic Church in Europe, North America and in Australia. The frightening thing is that very often we hear of child sexual abuse scandals involving the Catholic Church but rarely hear of such crimes happening in children's homes run by other faiths. The Scribe believes that such crimes also occur in other Homes run by other religions. However the Catholic Church almost always becomes the favorite target for such exposes.
What is important here is that many faith based children's home have been set up with the noblest of intentions where dedicated men and women have helped to nurture and care for these children. Very often the Religion that runs such Homes that are implicated in such a scandal, become a target of ridicule and hate by segments of society who hate the religion concerned. Whatever the case, The Scribe wants the identity of these criminals to be exposed and be brought to book. Even more important, if this scandal involves a religious run body, then the immediate Head of that religion under the purview of the Children's Home must also be prosecuted and be defrocked by his peers to keep the sanctity of the faith he or she represents and also for failing to take action when it was possible.
