Girls Soccer: Broad Run, Heritage and Woodgrove All Advance to State Semifnals

(June 8, 2011) - 3-time defending AA girl soccer state champion Broad Run High School advancing to the state semifinals in Radford with an easy 5-1 win over Jamestown Tuesday did not raise many eyebrows.

On the other hand, first-year Woodgrove, a school with no seniors and the No. 6 seed in the Dulles District, winning 4-1 on the road at Warhill to advance to Radford was certainly surprising.

Baseball: Big 4th Inning, Complete Game from Clarke Advances Spartans to State Semfinals; Potomac Falls Falls at York

Ashburn (June 7, 2011) - The Broad Run High School baseball team defeated Jamestown in a VHSL AA state quarterfinal playoff game in Ashburn on Tuesday night to move within two games of the program's first state title in 20 years. (June 7, 2011) - Potomac Falls High School junior Jackson Rogers has been named the Region II Pitcher of the Year in a vote of the region's coaches and Broad Run skipper Pat Cassidy, who led his team to its first regional title since 1996, is the Coach of the Year.

Boys Soccer: Broad Run's Reitzel is Named Region II Player of the Year; Tuscarora's Gryder Coach of the Year


(June 7, 2011) - Broad Run High School senior Kevin Reitzel, who leads the Spartans into a 7 p.m. state quarterfinal contest at home tonight, has been named Region II boys soccer Player of the Year in a vote of the region's coaches. Tuscarora's Dave Gryder, who has his first-year Huskies in the state tournament with no seniors on the roster, was named Coach of the Year.

(June 7, 2011) - The Broad Run High School girls soccer team, which opens its quest for a fourth straight state title by hosting Jamestown tonight at 5 p.m. in a state tournament quarterfinal, has swept the Region II awards with senior Whitney Church named Player of the Year and Claire Collins named Coach of the Year.

Girls Soccer: Broad Run Girls Win 5th Straight Region II Title

Ashburn (June 4, 2011) - The Broad Run High School girls soccer team clinched their fifth consecutive Region II title with a convincing 5-1 win over Dulles District rival Woodgrove Friday night.


The Wolverines are no strangers to the Spartans who have played each other four times this season including this year’s District championship game.

Soccer: Double Trouble! Broad Run Boys and Girls Claim State Tournament Spots

Ashburn (June 3, 2011) - Broad Run High School claimed a pair of state playoff berths in boys and girls soccer following Region II semifinal wins Thursday.

The Spartan girls took the field first, defeating John Handley High School, 7-1, in convincing fashion.

Girls Basketball: Broad Run Hires JV Boys Coach Chris Pasternak as New Coach

(June 2, 2011) - Broad Run High School has hired boys junior varsity coach Chris Pasternak as the school's new girls basketball varsity coach.

In other hiring news, Loudoun Valley wrestling coach Troy Mezzatesta, will coach the Vikings golf team in the fall, taking over for long-time coach Gary McKay.

Baseball and Softball: Five Loudoun Teams Advance in Regional Play

(May 31, 2011) - From AA to AAA Loudoun baseball and softball teams had a great Memorial Day as five teams advanced in regional tournament play. Stone Bridge baseball in the Northern Region and Loudoun Valley softball in the Northwest Region both advanced to the semifinals.

Football: Broad Run Junior WR Price Picks Up Offer from Bryant



Ashburn (May 31, 2011) - Broad Run High School junior wide receiver Michael Price has picked up a scholarship offer from NCAA Division I Bryant University according to Spartans coach Matt Griffis.

Bryant has offered Price a partial three-quarters scholarship which could go to a full scholarship. Price is slated to attend a Bryant day camp in two weeks.

Boys Tennis: Loudoun Players Find Success in Region II Quarterfinals

(May 31, 2011) - Loudoun boys tennis players had a good start to the Region II tournament as Freedom High School's Wesley Wong and Broad Run High School's Kevin Chang both won in their quarterfinal singles matches and Wong teamed with Alex Cragg to advance in the semifinals in doubles as well.

Football: VHSL Releases 2011-12 Divisions - Half of Loudoun's 12 Schools Shift Division

(May 31, 2011) - The Virginia High School League has released its football divisions for the next two seasons (2011 and 2012) and half of Loudoun's 12 high schools have moved either up or down a division.

Freedom and Broad Run move up to AAA Division 5 from AA Division 4 while Heritage and Loudoun Valley shift down from AAA Division 5 to AA Division 4. Both Loudoun Valley and Heritage are
