There should be a good faith job offer from your GC employer as of today. You can decide not to join the job after your I-485 filing and 180 days there after.

If I am working with X company & Y company is ready to file GC.
(Assuming Y has no objections even if I do not join the company at all)
Is it mandatory for the candidate to join company Y at certain stage which has file GC?

I have been full-time with big company for the past 9 years. Stuck with EB3. I need a serious input from you guys about joining in a new company and applying EB2. I probably get new employment with a small firm of size 100-150 employees. I have MS from USA in 2005. Is it good idea to join in new company or is it a worth waiting for EB3 dates. My PD is in 2003. What if you are in my situation? Please advise. Thanks.

My wife's co. provides health insurance for both of us. We are both on H1-B.
If my wife quits her job, can we still be eligible for COBRA because at that point she will be doing COS to H4. If someone has any experience or knowledge about this please reply. It will help us deal things better as we are better prepared with what could be our options.
Does COBRA depend on H1-B status? Also recently Obama administration has worked a plan where the payments on COBRA are less than the usual amounts, COBRA subsidy? Can you provide details regarding that?
Why does she need to use COBRA? Certain life changing events such as job loss, birth, etc. allow adding or removing of dependants, or enrolling in an insurance plan outside of the enrollment period. So you should be able to join the insurance plan provided by your employer. If she's quitting her job, she should be eligible to come on to your insurance plan as a dependent. This will be a much cheaper option than using COBRA. Look into this.

If your friend wants to know ask him to join IV , why are you proxying for him > He shud be more worried than you. Pls talk to a professional lawyer on this situation, I am sure none of the folks here can advise on this,

My friend - infact he his my room mate got an appointment with attorney after two weeks , becuase of the rush until 17th August, even he can able to contact the attorney over the phone.
He has requested me to post and search in the forums to get any possible answer before 17th so that he can re file . but the now that option is closed.
He his very busy with few productions issues at the site and he can not browse few sites from his office- including this immigrationvoice. he is already a member of this forrm, I am just trying to help him.

After you come back, you get your extension approved. Say you go to get your visa stamped based on your extension approval: if the consular is an astute observer, the fact that you travelled while your petition is pending will become obvious, which may lead to problems. USCIS assumes that you would not be travelling but doesn't USUALLY pause to check it with you. That is the job for the consulars who give you the stamp or those at the port of entry. Most probably, you might be asked to give copies of all the past i-94. In the case of ASHISMAITY it would be interesting to know whether that person got the stamp updated. Of course, the answer is going to add to your confusion unless you ask your lawyer.

if you are foreign national selling a house, 10 % of your sale price may be held in escrow account till you pay the taxes. This is the case in atleast some states. This is what your real estate lawyer might be referring to. The rest 10 % is released after you have shown proof that you have paid your taxes.

We have written a letter to our congressman asking if he could help expediting the process. They called us yesterday and said that they would try to do their best though they couldn't promise on the outcome.

Arctic Butterfly works great. I picked one up in Toronto at Henry's after shooting some photos of the CN Tower. Noticed I had a few spots and sure enough they were on the high pass filter. I did attempt to blow the particles off but they were not budging. I decided to deploy the butterfly and it worked just fine. After two passes the dust was gone. I didn't find it a difficult or stressful task and never felt as if I was "at risk" of damaging my camera. My two cents.
