STOP ASSAULTING FORM SIX STUDENTS!!!!

A lot has been said about the deterioration of Malaysia's education standards. There's also a lot of talk about the level of discipline in schools. As a student, I agree that students who break school rules need to be reprimanded. What I strongly disagree is the use of the cane on Form Six students by teachers.

I have seen 19 year old Upper Six students getting caned for not wearing their KK uniform in front of form six girls. One of them was actually a 20 year old Upper Six student. Teachers don't seem to realise that we are mature adults but yet seem to get their egos boosted by caning young adults as though they were 15 year olds. The only reason teachers are not getting bashed up by Form Six students who are caned is because we fear that if we retaliate, the school will give us a bad Testimonial which will affect career prospects. If we are immature like a 15 year old, we wouldn't even bother about what is written in our Testimonials. However, I must caution here that our patience will run out someday and don't be surprised to hear that a discipline teacher getting bashed up by a form six student. We consider any form of physical punishment whether it is caning or slapping as an assault. We will retaliate as self defence towards any form of physical punishment by teachers as we would do if we are assaulted outside of school.

If we were to commit an offence, we would be charged as an adult in the eyes of the law and not as a juvenile. We are also at the legal age to get married and father our own children. We are also required to pay taxes if we work so why are we subjected to juvenile school rules which includes caning, slapping, hair snipping and worse of all being shouted and treated like juveniles by teachers. We are in Form Six because we can't afford to go to college.Can you imagine college students getting caned? If we break school rules, reprimand us as a boss would reprimand his staff. If the behaviour persists, then suspension or expulsion should be taken against the student. We want to be treated as adults with respect from our teachers. How do you expect us to respect teachers who don't respect us as adults?

It is indeed both shocking and bewildering to learn that Form Six Students, who under the eyes of the law have reached the age of consent are being caned and slapped by teachers in schools. What type leaders is our school system moulding? If adults need to be caned in school to correct their behavior, then, The Scribe fears the future is indeed bleak for this country. These teachers who go around caning, slapping and verbally abusing Form Six student are not fit to be educators. Maybe, they need to work as prison officers if they enjoy assaulting adults. At least here, they can whip the crap out of grown men. Now we know why we are producing inferior graduates who seem to have lost their self esteem, no thanks to the Malaysian School System. For the teachers who go around caning Form Six Students, you better go and see a head shrinker before a Form Six Student beats out the 'very little' grey matter you have in your head.
