Oh mo...

People, the month of November is almost upon us. In my house, that means one thing, and one thing alone: Movember.

For those of you who don't know, Movember is a month of fun fundraising where male participants grow a moustache and get friends and family to sponsor them to raise funds for vital research into prostate cancer. Ladies, they're not asking you to stay off the wax, so no growing handlebar moustaches, now! Ew.

More men are likely to develop prostate cancer than any other type of cancer. Advances in treatment mean that three quarters of men diagnosed now survive beyond the first five years: in the 1970s, it was less than a third that survived, making this a fantastically worthwhile cause.

My boyfriend normally sports a nice bit of rugged stubble (I promise it's sexy and masculine: nothing like the Craig David pencil goatee!) but this is the one month his facial hair takes a decidedly crazy turn, as the beard comes off and the 'tache remains. As much as I don't enjoy the strange looks from uninitiated women who clearly think I have rather retro taste in men (who doesn't love Tom Selleck and his chest wig...), I love the effort that my boyfriend and his friends go to in raising money for this fantastic cause.

To find out more about Movember, click here. It'd be great to hear if you know anyone who's taking part this year - a bit of sisterly solidarity over our males' fanciful face furniture wouldn't go amiss!
