end, there is a lot to play for in Texas. Dan Geraghty picks a trio of promising bets for the Shell Houston Open.
Jason Day 50.0 didn't immediately live up to the hype that he created for himself by declaring his intention to take down Tiger Woods. However, his form last year was so good that it got him into the field for the World Matchplay where he played some wonderful golf and was unlucky to meet JB Holmes, who took advantage of a fortunate ruling to control the tie.
Despite impressing on occasion this season, Day hasn't contended as much as he would have liked and while his mind may wander to next week's Masters, I think 50.0 is a big price about him kick-starting his season. The field here this week isn't as strong as it could be and Day has some decent course form to offer in the shape of his eighth place finish on his 2008 debut in the event.
It may surprise you to know that Anthony Kim is as short as 85.0 to win next week's Masters. Kim has barely featured this season, struggling to recover from injuries, but his price is so low because his 11 birdies in one Masters round two years ago lives long in the memory. He's often touted as a future owner of a green jacket. I think it's a little ambitious to expect that to arrive this year but I'm happy to take the 50.0 about him defending the title he won here 12 months ago.
Marc Leishman showed he is in fine form by nearly forcing his way into a surprise play-off appearance last week. Leishman has more to gain from a victory here than most; not only would it be a first win that secures him exemptions but it would get him into next week's Masters field. He had a taste of Augusta last year so he knows exactly what he's missing.
Dangers: Old column favourite Steve Marino 46.0 nearly got the monkey off his back last week but I won't be backing him anytime soon after he managed to avoid victory once again. Phil Mickelson's 22.0 price continues to rise, the public seem to think his mind will be elsewhere, and Gary Woodland 75.0 could be back in contention on what could well be a big hitter's course.
