It looks like Candy were a Belgian aggregation (group would be too sane), and Orang-Utang is well...BLOODY SUPERB, makes Jungle Jim sound like Joy Division. The manic drumming, Farfisa organ and insanely infectious tune put this one right up with the best Monkey songs around...it nestles perfectly next to Douglas (Monkey Song) in any case...

Hans Von Hemert’s name appears as producer on many choice Dutch Glam era singles including Dump’s incredible Annabelle (or Annabella). He also had quite a few releases under his own name and was pretty popular at the time.

Because Of The Cats is the title song to what appears to be a Dutch Giallo/Slasher movie -Niet Voor De Poesen : A series of rapes are commited by a gang of "untouchable" rich kids. The gang doesn't need to steal as they are all rich. Instead, they hold sadistic quasi-satanic rituals, wreck the houses of other rich people, and rape women. The boys call themselves "The Ravens"; the girls call themselves the "She-Cats." Egged on by the "She-Cats," the boys' activities escalate until they commit a murder...
Musically Because Of The Cats is nailed down by a thumping beat, sports a catchy tune with subtle orchestration and features some choice use of phasing half the way through. A very cool single indeed!

Fady was the best on Saturday. And I am not saying it because I think that he is hot (he is ....). I loved his interpratation of Rick Astley's "Never gonna give you up" . It was gorgeous, it was different- it was brilliant. His second song of the eve was "All by myself " (Eric Carmen). Simply perfect. I love his voice- it is so much different! I have heard the others' kind of voices for a hundred times, while Fady's voice is- from my point of view- totally unique.

Miley Cyrus Topless Photos: Nude Magazine Cover Pictures?

Is there really going to be a topless photo of Miley Cyrus now unveiled? There are now reports that the star of Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus, will be set for a nude cover shot for a magazine. Miley is only fifteen years old and the cover shot that is going all over the World Wide Web keeps all of her private parts covered and it could easily be a hoax.

The photo that is circulating shows the singer and actress on what would appear to be a grab from a high definition television in freeze frame from a promo spot. It could easily be a hoax and the photo might be doctored but it shows the a photo of Miley and she appears to have nothing on at all. On the bottom of the photo a logo says "ET Monday" and the cover is supposedly from Vanity Fair.

When you visit the ET Online and Vanity Fair websites there is no mention of the photo shoot or the cover shot that is floating around the web. If it is real it will spark massive controversy. It will be easy for many to believe because of the many racy photos that have leaked of Miley Cyrus of late. She has had several pictures posted of her online and they have ranged from lesbian like kissing photos to pictures of Miley in her underwear.

The latest snaps showed Miley pulling away her top to flash her bra and show her rolling around and canoodling with a guy that looks quite a bit older than her with both snuggling together. If this latest Miley Cyrus photo is real, Hollywire has it here) it will bring in everyone to comment. But keep in mind, this could easily be a hoax.

For various reasons, it was much harder to empty my mind of work this weekend. The thoughts lingered and festered stewed. The air laid its humid weight on the skin. And it was no surprise that the newspapers brought ill news of far larger scale.

So if, like me, you too need a powerful dose of distraction to empty and clear the mind before the start of a new week, I would recommend:

(1) A swim in a public pool, where the colliding bodies of old men/women doing the backstroke in circles and the schools of children at stage-1 buoyancy, will certainly chase out all other voices in your head. But there is something else very therapeutic, even hypnotic, about doing front-crawl/freestyle laps. The need to focus on each stroke and stretch, the thrill of overcoming resistance and those dancing lines of light on the tiled bottom of the pool, that play of light, medium and motion.

(2) A visit to the newly-opened Peranakan Museum by the Asian Civilisations Museum. . The materiality of the Peranakan culture makes it a perfect for a museum presentation, where there is little need for complex digital devices. Instead, the object that exists in time and space alone - its beauty, its physical witness - suffices.

The Peranakan Museum is the old Tao Nan School on Armenian Street off Stamford Rd, located right beside the Substation and across from the Singapore Management University. Take the train to Dhoby Gaut or City Hall. It's a 5-10minute walk from either station.

Transformers star Megan Fox has been voted the 'sexiest woman in the world' in the annul FHM poll.

Last year's winner Jessica Alba was pushed into second spot by new entry Fox.

Glamour model Keeley Hazell was voted the third sexiest woman in the world, making her the highest placed British woman.

Actress Elisha Cuthbert and Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere made up the top five.

Filling the other five spots in the top ten were Scarlett Johansson, Girls Aloud's Cheryl Cole, Hilary Duff, Angelina Jolie and Keira Knightley.

All the usual stars made up the top 100 list, with a few surprise entries, for example Location, Location, Location's presenter Kirstie Allsopp debuting at number 91.

There is nothing correct - politically speaking - about Saint Jack, the 1979 film by Peter Bogdanovich based on Paul Theroux's novel of the same name.

A Chinese shopkeeper repeatedly refers to the American pimp Jack Flowers (Peter Gazzara) as ang moh, and eventually gets chided by the deadpan Jack "hey, you don't want me to call you chink" (or something like that). The British colonial castoffs in Singapore get drunk, prance around in their undies, mumble some cynicism and sleep with the prostitutes Flowers pimps. The Americans are horny Michael Fays off to Vietnam or men in cowboy hats and big cars. And of course, our favourite Asian men are either loutish gangsters with no style even when they swear, a dwarf, grouchy suspicious old men in a shophouse (or behind the bar counter), or a pimply teenage male prostitute along Tanglin Road. The first Indian woman the camera has any interest in is a Ceylonese "black" beauty who later unravels her sari and becomes Flowers' bedmate. And there are plenty of Chinese tarts with hearts - for Jack the saint, of course - even his Ah Mah loves Jack enough to nag him to eat everytime she appears - "if don't eat you will die."

But despite or maybe because of all this, the film is not dishonest about its essentially white/caucasian, male view of this island in the 70s. And while the writer/director may intend for the island to be the other character in the film (in a pointed scene, Jack Flowers tells a British visitor the Sang Nila Utama story - and how he named the island Lion City after seeing Tigers - yeah), the truth is that this island, its people and its context, is but a backdrop for what is essentially a story about an American middle-aged drifter in the tropics who is both trapped and redeemed by his romance of being an American middle-aged drifter in the tropics.

The title "Saint" and his surname Flowers is therefore both innocence and crude irony - all the "de-flowered" women and boys. When the island gangsters capture and tatoo cheap insults all over both his arms, he goes and tatoos flowers over them. Hearing one of his prostitutes lament about her boyfriend, he promptly removes his watch and gives it to her for her to appease her man. But he is, after all, her pimp. Paid handsomely to take photographs of an American senator in a tryst with a male prostitute, he in his final "redemptive" act, decides to destroy the photographs (and in doing, destroys his lucrative business contract providing "R&R" to visiting GIs) - but we also see him walking back into the squalid streets of this island to pimp some more.

Even if you live on this island and watch only action/thrillers/horror flicks, Saint Jack will be enjoyable simply for the scenes of the old Seletar airport, Bugis when hawkers would walk by and place dildos for sale on the table (or so the film portrays) and prostitutes (transverstite?) would sport big white afro wigs a la a Wong Kar Wai character, the relatively unchanged Raffles Hotel, a Shangri La hotel that is seemingly set in the wild... bum boats carrying goods in the Singapore River and a grotty Clarke Quay before it was disneyfied for tourists and yuppies. Heck, so what if all this only perpetuates the idea of the seedily "exotic" East and our own sad, distorted nostalgia!

It's a surprisingly watchable film and Ben Gazzara's portrayal of Jack Flowers so effective attracts and repels.

Miley Cyrus Caught in PG-Rated Scandal

She didn't shave her head or wander topless through the desert, searching for aliens, but teen idol Miley Cyrus is in one dilly of a pickle over the release of some racy photos.

Well, they're not exactly "racy" so much as "not even remotely racy, even if you're Amish."

The photos, which were posted on gossip blog JustJared.com, feature the 15-year-old Hannah Montana star showing off her stomach and - gasp - a fifth of her bra! No wonder everyone's all up in arms. Young girls might see that and want to buy their own bras! Won't someone think of the children?

Cyrus was previously in the hot seat earlier this year for posing in a T-shirt and underwear and also in late 2007 when photos were revealed of the young starlet and her friend sharing a piece of licorice at a sleepover. That's not a euphemism; it really was just a photo of them sharing a piece of licorice. Next stop: cocaine and hookers.

The ongoing Brian Engel/ Martin Briley saga continues…Yes, it’s ye old Mandrake Paddle Steamer, Prowler, Liverpool Echo, Shambles guys with the follow up to Do You Like Boys. It’s pretty different from the previous Starbuck release as it leaves the camp element behind, but the 2 sides are veritable corkers. Both songs were written by Howard/Blaikley with Heart Throb being a glammed up 50s / 60s recreation with an incredible production –progressive Doo-Wop anyone?
Ricochet is more like Chicory Tip updating The Merseybeat sound but with more oomph. Fantastic stuff!

Letters From The Front...

So here I am in Hamburg...

Spent the day checking out the record scene, and I've had a pretty productive day.

Many of the shops I had on my list are now closed, but the remaining stores well made up for it so far. The first shops I visited were Zardoz, Slam and Rekord in Schulterblatt. I picked up 4-5 singles there, but following a short taxi ride I landed at Plattenrille which you can find at the end of an alley at 29 Grindelhof. The shop itself is pretty big with an OK collection of singles and a huge amount of LPs, but after talking to Paul who's been running the shop for donkey years, I was invited into the backroom which is in fact more like a warehouse! There must have been over 50.000 singles there, all meticulously alphabetisized. The only shop I know where Cardinal Point have their own section for chrissake!

Needless to say, after a good 4 hours going through the boxes, I found 50 singles of note, which come to think of it is the same number I usually find at the Utrecht fair in 2 days!

When you've been buried in your work for a while, take a step back.

It's simple enough. Everyone knows.

Step1 back
This afternoon, I took some time off work to be at the School of the Arts, Singapore (SOTA) and caught 15mins of a short recital session by a few of their young music students. Watching the 13 and 14 year olds take their art seriously and interacting with teachers who, I think, are not only developing their students' skills, but in performing alongside their students, demonstrating the values of the arts - I came away hopeful about this island.

The value of an arts education is not a career in the "creative industries" or even being a "well-rounded" individual. It's a whole bunch of other stuff - discipline and persistence, confidence, openness to new ideas and (contrary to all the stereotypes of self-centred artists), respecting others, whether the artist for your audience, or the audience for the artist.

The SIFF this year did not yield any real gems for J and I. But last Sunday, after watching this film, its simple lyricism was refreshing - as was a short chat we had with a friend on the grounds of "old school" about films and what seems, to me, possibilities.

When you've been buried in your work for a while, take a step back. Even if that step brings you to places where it's, arguably, still about your work. It's simple enough. Everyone knows. The need to see alternatives, sense possibilities, realise that there's still space - around, ahead - behind.

Michael Elo –That’s My Bag/ Wizzy Lizzy –Philips 6012 364 (1973 NL)

Frizzy Micky sings Wizzy Lizzy! Michael was a Danish citizen who had quite a few releases including a solo album with the self-effacing title "Me" in ‘71. This single was recorded in The Netherlands under the supervision of producer Hans Van Hemert (Because The Cats coming soon…) and it’s a nifty Hard Rockin’ Glam crossover. The lyrics allude to that great Danish obsession with broomsticks and the like, but there’s no foul, only fair to be found here…Perhaps not a great Dane, but a man of definite merit based on this B side in any case.

Transformers star Megan Fox is hotly tipped to top the FHM 100 Sexiest Women In The World 2008 poll.

Bookmakers were forced to close betting on the foxy young actress after a flurry of bets were placed, hinting that her current poll position has been leaked.

Helen Jacob, entertainment manager at Sky Bet said: "The American actress was not even in the running a couple of weeks ago but now our lucky punters who have backed her are set to win a fortune if she lifts the crown!"

PARIS HILTON has apologised to former pal KIM KARDASHIAN after poking fun at the reality TV star's famous bottom live on air.

In a recent radio interview, Hilton insisted she'd never swap butts with the voluptuous former Playboy pin-up, likening Kardashian's best asset to "cottage cheese inside a big trash bag," and adding, "It's gross".

After school,
walked to Mrt station & i trained down to Dover.
My LEOPPY(fyi, its my laptop's name!) seems heavier&heavier as the days pass, btw.

We took bus to Holland V.
& went to coffee bean.
Played the racing game on my leoppy for awhile,
&stayed there till 7 plus.
After which, walked all the way to the bus stop,
and took 74 back home.
Which is also the explanation for the long long bus ride.

My Shoe is causing blisters agn. after the kappa shoes, Now this one.
at this rate, my blisters will never heal luh!

The arrangement and structure are really strange to say the least, just you wait until that thumping middle eight kicks in. after alighting her, they sent me home.
and reached back after 9.
So the total car journey for 2 places was like 2 hrs.

didnt even have time for break 1.
& during break 2 it was uberly crowded.
and we had to resort to 7-11 :(
Was super difficult to find Burger King luh!
so crowded!

out of the 2 and 1/2 hr of break.
more than 1 hr was dedictated to preparation of presentation.


After lessons,
waited for Shu outside her class.
Then went for late lunch with her.
Met Burger king at the canteen,

there was supposed to be a "meeting".
which turned out to be a gathering instead.

If rumours are to be believed, pop superstar Mariah Carey is dating actor and rapper Nick Cannon.

According to reports, the pair hooked up after Cannon was hired to appear in Carey's new music video, E=MC2.

Return from Utrecht...again!

Every time I come back from the fair, the same clichés come to mind:...The sheer size of it is just plain nuts (500+ dealers) and it really pisses all over what passes for major "International" fairs here in London.

The aches and pains of crouching, stretching and walking up and down the isles in a crazed daze looking through the Zillions of singles, in the hope of finding that special classic that makes the trip worthwhile, is madness...BUT yes, I found some great and sometimes surprising stuff, but also some hilarious disasters!

The whole trip didn't start too well as I had to make changes to my original plans and went to Brussels the day before for work commitments, and in the confusion I forgot my 3 day passes in London! But what could have been an issue was swiftly sorted out with great friendliness by the organisers and I didn't have to go through with plan C, which involved hanging on to the under-carriage of dealer's van to gain entry...(In fact there was a plan B as well). So by 9 am on Friday, I was in...
And the result? Well, I came back with over 50 singles, including one absolute Corker from someone who was a household name in the UK in the 70s...I'll keep schtum about it until I review it (hopefully on Monday), in the meantime I'll just divulge that it involves motorbikes...
